Bob Cameron Passes Away

Van Alstyne, TX — Robert Waldon (Bob) Cameron, Jr., passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the age of 75. Funeral services were held at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, Texas, on Saturday, July 22.

Bob sang bass for many years, originally with the Crusaders from Dayton, Ohio, and the Rhythm Masters from Cincinnati, Ohio. Most notably, Bob sang bass with Bob Wills & The Inspirationals for several years, before settling down in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Bob graduated from John Adams High School in Cleveland Ohio. He served six years in the U.S. Army Reserves where he was a sharp shooter. Later in his career, he was employed at Kilpatrick Life Insurance and retired in 2005. On September 14, 1978, he married the love of his life, Pamela Joyce Lay, in Van Alstyne, Texas.

Bob was offered many full-time jobs with top groups over the years, but he chose to stay with his career in the insurance business. He is remembered by his sister, Jeanie Cameron Vargo, “So many remember him as a great bass singer, which he was. He just got better with time. But he was also one of the kindest, most soft-hearted people around. He was really funny and really laid back.”

He continued to sing through the years, and had formed a fine quartet called Chordsmith, who sang regionally.
