Charleston, WV (October 10, 2018) — John Howard Douglas Jr., 62, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 6, 2018, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

Douglas always had a love for music, and he started his career in Southern Gospel music by being a bass player for The Good Samaritans. He then went on to be a piano player for The Young Disciples and The JT Koontz Family. His gospel music career continued with The Douglas Family which later became the The Praisemen.

He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Shelly Smith Douglas; son, Eric and daughter, Lauren Douglas, both of Charleston; grandchildren, Aila and Avery Conley; brother, Greg (Teri) Douglas, niece and nephew, Eden and Todd Douglas, all of Charleston; mother and father-in-law, Paula (CD) Casto of Milton. Johnny was also survived by an uncle, aunts, cousins, and extended family members. He is also survived by his special friend whom he loved like a brother, Brad (Mary Beth) Querry and family of Sissonville.

A celebration of Johnny’s life will be held at Noon Thursday, October 11, 2018, at Point Lick Gospel Tabernacle, Campbells Creek, with Pastor Larry Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at New Antioch Cemetery, Red House, WV.

A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2018.
