Entry - April 16, 2007

Four, I Say Four Weeks In A Row! (without a doubt a new world record)

I believe God created the family to give us an earthly example of heavenly realities. From our earthly example of the family experience we can better understand the Biblical concepts of love, the marriage supper, the bridegroom of Christ, the love of a parent for their children, the necessity for rules and discipline, and the skills of teaching and correcting.

God established the family as the foundation of a moral society for His earth. When the family is destroyed, then so is the society in which it lives. Love and morality are the foundations of the family. Anything that perverts the natural order created and established by God is perversion. And perversion is the death of morality.

In this journal entry I am focusing on our children. They hold America's future in their hands. And that future will be no better than the teachings of morality we imparted to them by example in the environment in which we raised them when their future is in our hands.

From what I see in today's society as it relates to the family and children, as far as America goes, may God have mercy on our souls.

BIBLE MEDITATION:
"But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all Thy works."

(Psalm 73:28)

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

We can be so protective of our reputations, can't we? I know of preachers who have lost their children because they were more concerned about what people thought than what God taught. Maybe some of you are raising teenagers and they dress in a way that isn't your style. Maybe your church friends are saying some unpleasant things. Let them criticize! God knows your heart. Those children are yours, not theirs. You need to love them with everything that God gives you. Stand by their sides. Never sacrifice your son or daughter on the altar of your reputation. Trust your children to the Lord.

ACTION POINT:
Are you a parent? Ask God to give you His wisdom so you can see how He is fulfilling His promise of Romans 8:28 in every situation.

("When You Thought I Wasn't Looking")

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you feed a stray cat, and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me, and I knew that little things are special things.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I heard you pray, and I believed there is a God I could always talk to.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I felt you kiss me good night, and I felt loved.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you give to someone needy and I learned the joy of giving.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you always did your best and it made me want to be all that I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I heard you say "thank you" and I wanted to say thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn't looking.

People were bringing little children to him Jesus in order that he might touch them; and the disciples spoke sternly to them. But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, "Let the children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it." And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.

(Mark 10. 13-16 NRSV)

FUNNY BONE:

(I dedicate this Funny Bone to my favorite blond - Karen Peck Gooch)

Three young ladies went down to Mexico one night to celebrate their collage graduation. All three came from good homes and were not accustomed to celebrating. The morning after their celebration they woke up in jail, only to find that they were to be executed the next day, though none of them can remember what they did the night before.

The first one, a redhead, is strapped in the electric chair and is asked if she has any last words. She says, "I just graduated from Trinity Bible College and believe in the almighty power of God to intervene on the behalf of the innocent."

They throw the switch and nothing happens. They all immediately fall to the floor on their knees, beg for forgiveness, and release her.

The second one, a brunette, is strapped in and gives her last words. "I just graduated from the Harvard School of Law and I believe in the power of justice to intervene on the part of the innocent."

They throw the switch and again, nothing happens. Again they all immediately fall to their knees, beg for forgiveness and release her.

The last one, a blonde, is strapped in and says,"Well, I'm from Louisiana State University and just graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and I'll tell ya'll right now, ya'll ain't gonna electrocute nobody if you don't plug this thing in.

Is there any doubt about who's son "Avery"is?

Mike Holcomb and granddauther "Aubrey"

Carolyn and I have adopted two grandchildren Hunter and
Loren Templeton. (Jeff & Amy Templetons children) We have had
the honor of having them as a vital part of our life for several
years. To us they are Joy unspeakable.

Till next time. Pray for all American families. Our future depends on them.
