BIBLE MEDITATION: "Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." 1 Peter 1:5

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: Believers are "kept" by the power of God. This word "kept" in 1 Peter 1:5 is a military term. It literally means to be garrisoned about as soldiers around a fort. Think of the power of God as a fortress and you are on the inside. Now, how do you feel? Pretty secure, right? So many people get the idea that we keep ourselves safe. Friend, He keeps us. A father was crossing a street with his son. The son had hold of his daddy's hand, then the light changed and the cars surged forward. The father grabbed his son's chubby little hand and almost lifted his son across the street to escape the oncoming traffic. That is the way God holds us. Psalm 37:24 promises, "Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with His hand."

ACTION POINT: You are in God's right hand. Write that down and post it in a place where you can meditate on it throughout the day. Now, ask yourself, "Knowing this can anything this week change that truth?" Dr. Adrian Rogers

Perspective

The words can't and defeat are not a part of my vocabulary. I believe the glass is always half full.

Singing News founder J.G. Whifield would not accept the word can't as an answer to anything. So I learned at a young age to drop that word.

I don't believe you are finished if you are defeated. I believe you are finished only when your quit.

Many publications had been tried before we started Singing News, none had lasted or made it on their on. Many industry folks told us Singing News will not make it either. Well here we are thirty six years old and still going strong.

God has blessed me in so many ways. Being at Singing News for all thirty six years of it's life is one of my greatest blessings. Singing News is not my job, it's not even my career, it's my life.

I have never let the ups and downs of life or the industry defeat me. I will never be defeated in this life, because I am not in charge, God is, and God cannot be defeated.

You may say well that's easy for you, because of the kind of work you do. You work in a Christian field. You're right and so do you my friend no matter what you do. It's not what you do, but why and how you do it that makes it sacred or secular.

"And whatever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto man; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance; for ye serve the Lord Christ." Colossians 3:23-24

My dad told me many years ago; "chose a career doing something you enjoy and you will never have a job." He was so right, I haven't gone to work in over forty five years.

I am from the old school like, James Blackwood, Hovie Lister, Jake Hess, JD Sumner, and dozens more. I pray God will allow me to stay at Singing News and in Southern Gospel Music till my last breath. Jerry Kirksey
