Carolyn and I are in the birthplace of Southern Gospel Music, Lawrenceburg Tennessee. The James D.Vaughan Quartet Festival now in it's seventh year continues to grow and is becoming a favorite of Traditional Quartet fans. The city of Lawrenceburg, the town council, the county commissioners, the Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Lawrenceburg are all involved in the Quartet Festival. The whole town supports this event. If you have never been here you need to come visit the birthplace of our industry and enjoy the style of singing that got it all started.
I have some introductory photos to share with you. We'll be taking more photos today and tonight. Last night (Friday July 29) we had Gold City, The Kingsmen and The Inspirations. Tonight we have The Dove Brothers, Triumphant and The Perrys. If you live near-by come and join us.
Many of the local businesses have welcome signs posted. This motel is where Carolyn and I stay each year as do most of the groups.
This sign is posted on many of the main streets of Lawrenceburg.
The restored Crockett theater is where the Festival is held.
The James D. Vaughan Museum is located on the town square . The Vaughan signs are posted all around the square.
This plaque was posted by the state of Tennessee on the spot where Mr. Vaughan's offices and radio station was located. The first Quartet also was formed in this building.
The James D. Vaughan Musem is also located on the spot of the original Vaughan building.
A partial view of the town square.
A huge painting of Mr. Vaughan and the first Southern Gospel Quartet adorns a building on the square.
Here is a little better view of the painting.
Top: Gold City and bottom Kingsmens bus had arrived at the Richland Inn when I got up and out Friday morning.
A view of the stage being set up for the Vaughan Quartet Festival
A long line developed just before the doors opened. All the Quartets etc were set up under tents in the middle of Military Street in front of the Crockett Theater. Food concessions were also available. Good....Bar-B-Q, cold drinks and tables and seating were also set up outside.
We will be on the road early tomorrow morning traveling to Fayetteville Arkansas for the Albert E. Brumley Sing which begins on Wednesday. I will try to post more on the Vaughan Festival when we arrive in Fayetteville.
Thanks for visiting Jerry's Journel. We LOVE you......
