Robert S. Arnold passes away
Robert S Arnold, age 98, of Coleman, Texas, died Saturday, February 8, 2003 in Coleman. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Monday at Elm Street Church of Christ with Tim Perkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Silver Valley Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Robert S Arnold was born January 26, 1905 in Coleman County, Texas and was a son of Milton Franklin Arnold and Rowena Victoria Lawrence. He grew up in Coleman and attended school in Silver Valley and Coleman. On February 13, 1928 he married Cora Angie McDonald in San Angelo and she preceded him in death on May 24, 1988. He was the founder and publisher of National Music Company and had written hundreds of gospel songs. One of his best known songs it the 1939 classic "No Tears In Heaven." Mr Arnold was inducted into the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame on September 14, 1985 and had been a member of Southern Gospel Music Association since 1975. He received a Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding contributions to Christian music from Abilene Christian University. He lived in Ft Worth, Kennedale and Jefferson, before returning to Coleman in 1975. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Within the past few years, he appeared as a special guest on a Gaither Homecoming program. His biography was published in 1971 by Stamps-Baxter.

Survivors include one foster daughter and her husband, Wanda and Tommy Williams of Hurst, two grandsons, Billy Williams of N Richland Hills and Bobby Williams of Carrollton, two nephews and their wives, Glen and Nancy Johnson of Alvarado and Max and Yvonne Lowrie of Ft Worth: five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two great-nephews, David Johnson of Odessa and Glen Johnson, Jr of Fallon, Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coleman County Medical Center Indigent Care Fund, 310 S Pecos, Coleman, Texas 76834.
