Sit Back And Watch It Happen
Next week is going to be crazy. I'll be in the Bahamas.
Now, before someone starts saying "oh, what a rough life you must live," let me point out that I'll have plenty of work to do during the cruise as there are about 30 artists and 1500 Southern Gospel fans who will also be on this cruise.
One of the things that we're going to attempt to do is to keep Danny's Diary going through the week with photos from the Jubilee At Sea.
I said attempt.
There is one major hurdle that has to be overcome, though.
Me.
I am as about as dumb as one can be when it comes to computers. Oh, I can find the power switch and I - most days - can type reasonably well. (I said type. Not spell.)
That's where my computer skills end. So keep your fingers crossed.
Did I mention that I'm prone to motion sickness, too?
All, kidding aside, we hope to bring you photo coverage of the Jubilee At Sea that takes place next week. This cruise has been sold out for quite some time and the weather forecasts are looking great. Just to give you an idea of the artists who'll be performing on this cruise, I'll mention the Dove Brothers, the Perrys, the Primitive Quartet, Jeff & Sheri Easter, the Mark Trammell Trio, Karen Peck & New River, the Pfeifers, the Wilburns, the Dixie Melody Boys, the Whisnants, Brian Free & Assurance, the Down East Boys, the Triumphant Quartet, Aaron Wilburn and there are many more. There are several great preachers who will be speaking during the cruise as well.

I've forgotten how many cruises I've been on since coming to Singing News. It's been several, though. The one thing that is common across all of them is that the people who actually work on the cruise ships relish the days when the Jubilee At Sea, the Singing At Sea, etc, are taking place.
You see, during those times, the workers get to relax a little as the number of "hassles" are greatly reduced. As an example, when the bars and casinos closed, problems are greatly reduced. You're smart enough to see why. But there's something even more important to them....
They're treated like friends instead of servants. I cannot count the number of times I've seen a member of our Southern Gospel Music community praying with a crew member who's experiencing a problem. Likewise, I cannot tell you the exact number, but I know there have been many, many decisions for Christ made during those weeks at sea. It's amazing how many "opportunities" God creates during the week. And frankly - it's a blessing just to sit back and watch it happen.
With all of that said, let me close by saying I know Southern Gospel Music is not perfect. Never has been, never will be. But it seems as though there are some people who delight in pointing all that is wrong and basically, in their own way, running down Southern Gospel and it's people. In fact, I've been on the receiving end of a few comments from people saying that my blogs are "too soft and fluffy" and I'm not "hard" enough. And, my personal favorite - "it's too feel good."
Well, first of all, it's my diary. But more importantly, I've been around many of these people in Southern Gospel Music for a long time. I've gotten to know them well and I believe I can sense their intentions. There's a lot of good work being done that no one ever takes the time to look for because it's not "sensational enough" or not riddled with gossip.
Let me tell you, giving a kudo to Mark Trammell or Brian Free because they took the time to listen to someone's problem and share the scripture with them is a lot more important than giving my opinion on why their new album is better or worse than their last. Discussing McCray Dove's rain dance doesn't excite me when I've seen him give the last dollar in his wallet to someone who needs help. Going back and forth with someone debating the merits of a new single by the Perrys doesn't do a thing for me when I've seen Libbi Stuffle pay for a tank a gas for someone she doesn't even know just because they're out of money and a long way from home. Trying to figure out which is the best group just doesn't measure up to observing Ricky Carden pay for someone's meal because he knew it would take every penny in their pocket.
I could list example after example just like the ones I've mentioned.
No, these things are not riddled with gossip.
No, these are not the things that make sensational press.
But they are headlines in Heaven.
