America Is Not Tolerant Enough
Did I get your attention with those words?
Good. Because I've something I want to share with you. The other day, I was listening to a radio talk show and the caller was ranting and raving about how America was a bully to foreign countries, how bad America treated immigrants, how badly criminals are forced to live, how America forced it's religious beliefs on everyone and how much America deserved to have some bad things happen to it.
Hold on just a minute.
Let's think. Yeah, America is not tolerant enough. It seems to me that nearly every time a country is threatened by another county, we get a 911 call from it's leader. We're asked to provide protection or even to strike out against the caller's offender. Our military resources - equipment and personnel - are utilized at risk...and we hardly ever even send a bill for our services.
But then if we ask for help in a matter we're either accused of being the big bad country or no one answers the phone.
And then we buy their products to help their economy and we spend tourist dollars on their soil. Yeah, you're right. America is not tolerant enough.
Let's think. America is not tolerant enough. The last time I checked, the line coming in to immigration is a lot longer than the exit line. In fact, the exit line officer is bored to death. Ever notice that most people who come in never go back out? We establish guidelines to help the people coming in find jobs, housing and benefits. But some of those people somehow or another fail to find it important enough to become American citizens and become taxpayers and responsible members of our society. Some do not even bother to learn the official language of our country.
Yet, we find many non-Americans on the payrolls and living in much better housing than that of their homeland. We've provided medical treatment to citizens of other countries on so many occasions that we've lost count. We seem to practically give the same benefits to citizens of other countries that someone who was born here has. We allow people who can't read our road signs to drive staight at us at 70 miles per hour. (I have a friend who was taking a CDL exam while another person was translating the questions and the wording on the signs to a person from another country.) Our corporations spend dollar after dollar training managers and supervisors to speak another language so they can converse with new workers who've come to our country.
Yeah, you're right. America is not tolerant enough.
Let's think. America is not tolerant enough. Our criminal justice system appears to be one of the most lenient of the world. Let me put it this way: REPEAT OFFENDER is not a term you hear in many of the world's other judicial systems.
Yeah, you're right. America is not tolerant enough.
Let's think. America is not tolerant enough. We are the world's leader in assistance. We risk our lives to take food, medicine, technology, information to the far reaches of the world. How much American money has been spent over the years to help other countries? Yet, we have nation after nation DEMANDING that we spend more, give more, help more. Has anyone heard the words "THANK YOU" lately?
Yeah, you're right. America is not tolerant enough.
Let's think. If you believe America is not tolerant enough, let me mention one other thing. There are some USA citizens who spend all their time blasting America on radio and TV, in the newspapers, on the Internet and so on. Yet, some day soon, we'll be providing them Medicare or Medicaid and a check at the beginning of every month.
Yeah, you're right. America is not tolerant enough.
Now, in case you're wondering, no, I'm not going to use Danny's Diary as a political sounding board or as an endorsement for this, that or the other. But the fact remains that despite what problems exist, America is the greatest country in the world. We have freedoms that most other people just dream of. We have the abilities to have a comfortable living and if you get right down to it, we're spoiled. In fact, we've stood in the shower of God's blessings so long, we should be wrinkled. It just bothers me to no end that there are people who are looking a gift horse right in the mouth and are demanding that we give it all away.
This country was founded on Godly principles. Yet, now we won't display a manger scene or the Ten Commandments in fear of offending someone.
I've seen a T-shirt in a truck stop that said "Jesus Christ - Go To Hell."
Yeah, you're right. America is not tolerant enough.

THE PERSON OF THE DAY
With all that I've just written, there is only one choice for today's honoree. Therefore, every man and woman who has ever honorably worn the uniform of the US Air Force, Army, Marines, Navy, Law Enforcement and any organization that provides comfort, protection and services to our citizens is THE PERSON OF THE DAY.
