Branson 09 Part I

While working on a special Branson Spotlight, to be included in the July issue of Singing News Magazine, I stumbled upon a fine quartet based in Branson.  They are known as the Downing Street Boys.  All of the vocalists are currently, or have been in the past, involved in various Branson shows and productions.

The Downing Street Boys are; Mark McCauley (bass), Trey Wilson (lead), Ronnie Page (baritone), David Ponder (tenor) and Lucas Case (pianist).  Mark and Trey sing together six nights a week as members of New South, the featured quartet at Branson's Grand Jubilee.  Ronnie Page sang baritone with the Oak Ridge Quartet in the late 50's.  Most remember Ronnie as a long time member of the Chuck Wagon Gang.  Finally, David Ponder was the tenor for the 90's southern gospel trio, Ponder, Sykes and Wright.

These guys are seriously good and very traditional in their musical presentation.  Their entire set, with the exception of two songs, was filled with very traditional quartet tunes or hymns.  Turn Your Radio On, Just a Little Talk with Jesus, Mansion Over the Hilltop, Victory in Jesus, I'll Fly Away, the traditional song list goes on.  The two newer songs, Glory to God in the Highest and It's Still the Blood were done very well.

There were no tracks and no stacks.  Four vocals and Lucas' fine piano accompaniment.  I was certainly impressed with their blend and very full sound.  And I have to shine a special spotlight on their bass vocalist, Mark McCauley.  He has it all; range, depth, tone, placement and smooth as silk.  I am speechless.

Hey guys,  please say you're going to venture outside of Branson so the rest of the world can get a taste of the Downing Street Boys!
