Where Are You? (#487)

Tuesday, July 27, 2010
When I'm at concerts, some people will invariably come up to me and say something along the lines of "What a great job you have! Getting to go to all the concerts and hanging out with the artists—it's gotta be great! If you ever need an assistant, call me!"

Funny, they never seem to be around when I'm loading up after the concert! LOL!

Nonetheless, they're right. I do have a great job. First of all, to have a good job/career in today's economy is nothing but a pure blessing. Secondly, to have the ability to work in one's chosen profession is nothing but another blessing. Thirdly, I do have the opportunity to work with some very talented people who also consider their work to be a blessing.

But in actuality, this is much more than a job or a lifetime career. This is the way I can contribute to something worthwhile. By being an encouragement to the artists, or by promoting them in such a way that helps audiences want to hear them, I can help keep those same artists going and spreading the Gospel. God did not choose me to be a singer or musician, nor did God give me a legitimate television ministry. Instead, He put me in a place where I could provide a supporting role to the leading actors/actresses.

And I'm perfectly content with that.

I've written all of that to get to this point: God's role for you may not be on the front line. You may not be the one He wants on stage at the biggest concert in town or in the pulpit of the finest church. Instead, you may be needed to sing at the local nursing home. He may want you just to keep the house of worship clean for each service. He just wants your service in the place He puts you.

I often wonder how many people are in just that place. Truthfully, each person can only answer that after being honest before God and allowing God to guide his or her steps. Trying to convince God He is wrong about His idea of where you're best utilized is, well, going to make for a long, long day.

So that's my question for you today: Are you where you're supposed to be? Are you in the spotlight for yourself or Him? Have you headed down a certain career path, but all the while God is wanting you elsewhere?

Have you truly listened to that Still Small Voice and responded with, "Not my will, but Thine?"
