Are You Sure I Can Do This? (#451)

Monday, July 20, 2009
My son Gregory has told me many times that while most of the world is on the technology expressway, I'm still trying to get moving down the entrance ramp.

Sadly, he's right.

But I'm not a total dinosaur. I've learned how to turn on my computer and I've actually managed to type a few things with no (well, minimal) damage to the machine itself. I've learned how to use my cell phone for things other than making a telephone call, and, of course, let's not forget that I've even managed to correctly post over 400 entries here in Danny's Diary.

Apparently, though, that is not any great accomplishment—at least according to Gregory it's not. He's always telling me to "get with it," "stay with the times" and "move before they start dusting you."

Humph. Kids.

Anyway, at the advice of a trusted friend who has also been harassed—I mean, uh, encouraged—by his offspring, I've started on a new journey.

I'm on Twitter.

When I told Gregory that I had gotten on board the Twitter train, he gave me the ultimate teenager approval: He actually said, "Cool."

Then he laughed at me when I had to get him to help me set up my Twitter account.

I won't attempt to explain it to you because if you're reading my diary, you probably already know what Twitter is, how it works and how you can "follow" me in a message of 140 characters or less (a message is often called a "tweet").

I've been sending out snippets of my days via Twitter for about a week now, and I'll admit that I like reading what my friends are also doing on Twitter. It may be a passing fad, but for the time being, it's enjoyable.

So, I'm inviting you to head over to Twitter.com and look for "snedit." That's me, and there's no predicting when I might send out a thought or share a one-liner, nor is there any of knowing what the topic might be. You'll also find several of your favorite artists there and much, much more. And if you want to keep up with me during concerts and the regular day, just click on "Follow" and you'll be set.

Hmmm...He actually said, "Cool."

Funny, I don't recall that being one of the signs of the last days...
