Southern Gospel recordings are seemingly released everyday. Unfortunately, some of those CDs will often get overlooked or lost in the shuffle because the artist is not one who is on the forefront of everyone's mind. In this entry, I want to share with you information about a recording that you should add to your collection today.
"Silver" is fresh from the manufacturing facilities of the Crossroads music family, and on that CD, you'll find 15 songs that have helped to shape Southern Gospel music since 1983: "I Think I'll Read It Again," "He's Sending Miracles," "Somebody Touched The Lord," "John Saw," "Little David," "God's Building A Church," "When Jesus Passes By," "How Deep Is The Water," "I'll Not Turn My Back On Him Now," "Shouting Time," "The Next Cloud," "Hello In Heaven," "Fourth Man Walkin'," "I'm Going Over" and "You Keep Praying." Artists such as Gold City, Karen Peck & New River, the Inspirations, the Kingsmen, the Freemans (and several others) took these songs to the top of the charts. All of these songs are from the pen of Sandy Knight, and when anyone talks about great Southern Gospel songwriters, they simply must include Sandy in their conversation.
"Silver" this is the first (of hopefully several) collection of songs that have become near-standards in Southern Gospel music. All 15 tunes are performed by the Roy Knight Singers, the South Carolina-based group that features Sandy, her husband Roy, daughter Tracie, and Tracie's husband Rodney. Without being specific, I think you'll find that there are a couple performances that outshine the renditions of the artists who originally made the songs "famous," because vocally the Roy Knight Singers can hold their own just fine. But even as good as they are, the appeal of "Silver" is enhanced when you consider the awesome array of songs that make up this CD. It's a true standout in any towering stack of plastic discs
Since I don't want this to sound too much like an album review (and I know I'm failing miserably in that department), let me just say that if you call yourself a serious Southern Gospel music fan - or even if you just enjoy the historical aspects of the genre - pick up a copy of this CD and pop it straight into the player.
