The Southern Gospel Olympics - Your Events

Tuesday, February 21, 2006

Last week, I asked for your suggestions for the Southern Gospel Olympics. I provided a couple of events, like the Bus Tire Toss and the Fastest Post-Concert Restaurant Dash, and then sat back to enjoy your response.

The readers of Danny's Diary, to say the least, are a creative bunch. See if you can picture your favorite artist in any of the following...

1.) The Product Table Dash - the quickest artist to get to the venue and get the prime product table spot.

2.) Seat Dash - the first fan to the middle seat in the front row of a non-reserved seat concert. Running over someone will result in disqualification.

3.) Lowest Bass Note Sang - You must still be able to understand the word, though. Growls do not count.

4.) Longest Note By A Singer Without Aid Of An Oxygen Tank - My money's on Arthur Rice.

5.) Piano Scramble - Winner will use the most keys during a one minute song.

6.) Vocal Endurance Contest - The winner will be the group that sings the most songs in a one hour concert.

7.) Who's That? - The shortest introduction of group members.

8.) Sing It Again Competition - The group that asks "Do you want to hear it again?" the most.

9.) The Jerry Kirksey Memorial Race - The fan who eats the most ice cream cones at the NQC. (I have to admit I was surprised by the name of this event. Isn't a person supposed to be dead before it's "memorial?" )

10.)Bus Surfing - Goal is to walk in the bus as it is going down the interstate at 85 miles per hour because the driver is trying to make up the lost time the group spent at Wal-Mart.

11.) High C - Holding High C without taking a breath. Can you say Karen Peck?

12.) Whimpy Note Competition - I won't mention the name of the bass singer who submitted this, but this event is for tenor who passes out the quickest after a series of high notes.

13.) Ice Skating (Without The Ice) - Best choreography of a Southern Gospel song.

There's more to come. This could get interesting!
