The Readers Want To Know (#314)

Monday, August 07, 2006

Have you ever just wanted to sit down with your favorite Southern Gospel artist and have the freedom to ask any question that popped into your mind? Or, have you ever wanted to gather about five of your favorites and have a round-table discussion? Don't forget the no-holds-barred question and answer session, either.

That last one scares me a little, come to think of it.

Anyway, today, the readers of Danny's Diary have a specal opportunity.

At one point within the November 2006 - February 2007 issues of Singing News, we're going to allow the readers of Danny's Diary to write the cover feature. That's right - the entire cover feature will be focused on the inquiring minds of people just like you. Here's what we want you to do...

1.) Submit as many questions as you desire. However, keep in mind that all questions do not necessarily apply to all groups. Since the final decisions regarding the particular cover feature you'll be helping to create has yet to be made, you should use questions that could be uniformly applied to many groups.

2.) Be creative! Questions like "what do you do on your days off" are okay, but let's be honest...that one is worn out. So, tightly strap on those thinking caps and get those brain cells in high gear.

3.) For all of your questions, you must submit your name, city and state. Questions received without this information will not be accepted. Further, if any of your questions are chosen to be included, your name will appear in print with the corresponding question.

4.) Though we hope to use as many of your questions as possible, it will be impossible to include all of them. The more unique the question, however, the better it's chance of being used. In the possible case of more than one person asking the same question, the first submission is the one that will be used.

5.) Althought I can't share with you just yet the names of the artists who will be found on the covers of the November 2006 - February 2007 issues, I will give you a few hints to help you as you begin formulating your questions...

a.) one cover will feature an artist who has released more than one solo recording.

b.) one cover will feature a legendary quartet who has a member that has sang in every U.S. state - except two.

c.) one cover will feature a family group that's not been on the cover for at least ten years.

d.) Remember the old saying "three's a crowd?" That doesn't hold true for this particular group.

Okay, I admit that I've not given you a lot to work with here - and for each of those four hints, several artists fit the bill. But at least you have something of a starting point.

The deadline for your questions is one week from today, August 14, 2006. I look forward to hearing from you.

One final thing, with your submissions, please include an e-mail address at which you are easily reached. If your question(s) is chosen, you'll be hearing from me as we will have one important piece of business to take care of. Don't worry, though...I think you'll like it.

If you want Southern Gospel music on your agenda right now, there are several great events going on this month...The Greene's Everette Greene Memorial Gospel Singing Jubilee starts Tuesday in Boone, NC; there's the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion in Knoxville, the Gabbards' Homecoming in Falmouth, KY (both are this weekend); and next week, the annual Seminole Sing kicks off on Wednesday. Make sure you visit singingnews.com to find out details or pick up a copy of the August issue.

Have a great week!
