This past weekend, I attended the first-ever East Tennessee Homecoming hosted by the Perrys and the Beene Family. While I must say that I heard some very fine singing from many groups, special kudos must be passed out to Gold City, the Dixie Melody Boys and the Perrys. Why? Well, it's rather nerve-racking to be on an outside stage when a) it's raining and water is slowly seeping its way to the sound equipment; b) the thunder roaring overhead causes your mind to wonder "why am I doing this;" and c) the lightning that causes the thunder is rivaling any rock concert light show that can be imagined.
Nevertheless, those three groups carried on like the pros they are, didn't cut their performances short and gave the remaining rain-soaked fans their money's worth.
Also, congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Landon Beene, who became first-time parents Saturday afternoon with the arrival of a healthy baby girl. Check the Singing News website for the baby's photo (THAT'S A MAJOR HINT, LANDON!)
Finally, let me ask you this: Is there a special training school for waiters and waitresses where they teach them to ask you a question only when your mouth is full?!?!?! Surely, I'm not the only who has encountered this.
