Because what I do for a living requires a lot of driving, I'm often behind the wheel in the wee hours of the morning. Two and 3 o'clock-type wee hours of the morning. Even though I might have the radio on, it's mere background noise because my mind will start wondering about, oh, everything. And it's off the wall stuff, too.
For instance, how do they get that creamy stuff inside a Twinkie? Or, if you're driving down the road and you throw a cat out the window, is that kitty litter?
What about this - if the Greenes and the Hoppers did bluegrass albums - like the Crabb family named their's "CrabbGrass" - would we have "GreeneGrass" and "GrassHopper?"
Or this - in Brian Free & Assurance, Brian and Ricky are free. Does that mean they are cheap? If Bill Shivers, the bus must be too cold. And just what is Keith Plotting? And is Derrick Selphish?
Maybe it's the diesel fumes. I don't know.
But despite those too-early-for-humans ponderings, I also know - at least in my case - those early morning hours are some of the times God uses most to get my attention. It's during those times He helps me work out problems, calms my fears, reminds me that He loves me. It's comforting to know He's working all hours of the night to make sure I get through the next day. For me, it's during those hours that the "still small voice" sounds the loudest.
Has it ever occured to you that nothing ever just occurs to God? I guess that's why, I suppose, He uses those early morning hours to visit with me. He knows I'm wondering - and He brings answers.
But you know, I can't help but think that even God grins a little when I wonder why Sheri Easter did not name one of her children Happy.
(PS: One of the best places to find questions that are just a bit off the wall is on the Greenes website, www.thegreenesgospel.com. Click on TaRanda's Southern Gospel Name Game. Keep TaRanda in your prayers - she's going to deliver that baby just any day now. And pray, too, that the baby looks like TaRanda and not Tony!)
