As any serious Southern Gospel Music fan will tell you, the summer season is in full swing right now - and no where is that more evident than in the list of super concerts that abound during the July 4th holiday.
For example, the Primitive Quartet's annual Hominy Valley singing gets underway tonight, the first of six concerts in Candler, NC. The Inspirations' Singing In The Smokies (Bryson City, NC) started Monday night and will continue through Sunday.
There's the Christian's Independence Day In The Park in Union Grove, NC, on Saturday. The annual All-Night Sing in Bonifay is also on Saturday.
But there are plenty more, too. The Singing Ambassadors host their 9th annual Shadow Valley Gospel Music Festival in Fayetteville, TN, Thursday-Saturday. Montgomery, AL, will be the scene of a big concert this Friday.
Those are just the first ones that come to my mind. So, you want to celebrate July 4th with a little Southern Gospel Music, there are plenty of options to choose from.
It's not too late to make your plans to attend some of these events, so get out the road atlas and chart your course. So, just where will you be this weekend?
As for me, I'll be in Hominy Valley Wednesday and Thursday. Montgomery, AL, on Friday, Bonifay, FL, on Saturday and back to Hominy Valley on Sunday. A lot of miles, but a lot of fun! (And just in case you're wondering if I will be posting, uh, "journalistic masterpieces" while I'm on the road, don't fret - there is a plan!)
Congratulations to Joseph and Shawn Smith (Mark Trammell Trio) on the birth of their first child, Canaan Elizabeth. Just more proof that God has the final say-so in every situation. Their story should be inspiration to every couple that longs to have a child. You can visit www.marktrammellministries.com and you'll find their story there. A picture of Canaan will be posted on the Singing News website later today, so you'll get to see her. Talk about a proud couple - and rightly so - I'd hate to see Joseph's cell phone bill from yesterday!
Have a safe 4th of July.
