Danny's Diary

Southern Gospel music has certainly had it's fill of big news stories lately. The unexpected deaths of Doug Riley and Anthony Burger certainly rank as two of the biggest.

In May of this year, Singing News will celebrate 37 years of publishing. During those years, there have been some huge news items. Unfortunately, many of them center around the passing of a Southern Gospel personality, but there have been others.

Let's see...there are things like the NQC moving to Louisville in 1994. How about the 1999 retirement of the Cathedrals and the grand opening of the SGMA Hall of Fame that same year? The formation of the Triumphant Quartet (Integrity Quartet then) in 2002? The Kingsmen became the Carolina Boys who became the Kingsmen?

On a piece of paper that I keep in my desk, I've begun writing down what I consider to be some of the biggest news stories I've encountered while working at Singing News. If I can keep from saying "It's been that long!?!" every five minutes, I'll make quicker work of it.

Naturally, I'm wondering what readers of Danny's Diary would consider to be some of the biggest news stories in the 37 years of Singing News. So, you know what to do: take a few minutes and send me what you consider as a big news story (and why).

What I am going to do with this information? To be honest, I'm not sure, but it might factor into some planning of future features.

I look forward to your responses.
