2006 NQC #1 (321)
Tuesday, September 12, 2006
Well, the National Quartet Convention has just completed it's first night of activities and things seem to be off to a smooth start, especially considering that the exhibit hall has been moved to the South Wing (because of the remodeling that is taking place in the old exhibition area). While I've not heard any official numbers, a couple members of the NQC Board of Directors indicated to me that they were pleased with the opening night crowd.
For the first round of photos, let's meet some of the people who were found near the Singing News booth ... and speaking of the booth .... here is the Singing News booth for 2006. Be looking for it when you visit the exhibit hall.

Troy Peach of First Love brought one his twins by to say hello.

Ronnie Bright (Down East Boys) and Aaron Hise (Whisnants) dropped in to visit for a few minutes.

McCray Dove and Jerry Martin of the Dove Brothers. McCray's been keeping a careful check on things on the homefront - he and his wife have twins on the way.

Stewart Varnado, all evening long, kept trying to get me to buy a copy of the new Southern Gospel players CD. I've not given in yet!

That slightly stunned look on my face is the direct result of another of Karen Peck Gooch's bits of wisdom. (Well, just to be nice, I'll call it wisdom. Since she's a little older than I am, I'm just going to chalk it up to a pre-mature senior moment. As Aaron Wilburn would say, "Bless her heart.")

Did someone request bus parking close to their booth? Actually, this IS the booth for the Hemphill Brothers Coach Company. This bus can be yours for a nominal fee - depending on your definition of nominal, of course.

Here's a photo of the bride and groom! This is Ronnie Booth and his wife (of barely a week!), Kim. When you see Ronnie, ask him how many times it took before we got this photo - and how his brother Michael nearly wrecked it.

Can you tell Mark Trammell is bubbling over with energy? In the interest of fairness, this old man had been working hard for over an hour without taking a nap.

Another newlywed photo: Ricky & Kelly Free were at this year's NQC.

Be looking for more photos later!
