Pigeon Forge, TN - Singing News is pleased to announce that Karen Peck Gooch and Ivan Parker will host the 2010 Singing News Fan Awards on Wednesday, September 29, 2010.

"We are excited about having Karen and Ivan as part of the awards program," says Singing News Editor Danny Jones. "These well-respected artists are long-time fan favorites, so we feel they will add an important element of Southern Gospel experience and commitment to the show."

"September 29 will be a day to remember with the merger of the Southern Gospel Music Association's Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and the Singing News Fan Awards," says Gooch, who is also the President of the Southern Gospel Music Association. I'm very honored to be co-hosting the show with Ivan."

"Even though this is not my first time to be a co-host of the Fan Awards program," says Parker, "I don't take this opportunity for granted. This has been the leading Southern Gospel Music awards show for 40 years and to be included as a co-host with Karen, who has always been one of my favorite singers, is indeed a privilege."

This year's program will be held at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and coincides with the park's opening day of their National Southern Gospel & Harvest Celebration (September 29 - October 30). Further, the year 2010 marks the 25th Anniversary of Dollywood and the 100th Anniversary of Southern Gospel Music.

I am so saddened by the recent move of the Singing News Fan Awards from the stage of NQC to Dollywood that I cannot tell you. One of the reasons that I planned my vacation a year in advance was to go to Louisville and be in the audience for the fan awards night. What sense does it make for the awards ceremony to go to a venue that holds less than 2,000 people from a hall where there would be in excess of 10 to 15 thousand people, actual fans. After you remove family and friends and industry people from the crowd how many fans can actually be there to see the event in the Dollywood theatre? Not very many. I think that the NQC will regret this decision or whomever is in charge of the Fan awards because it takes away from the public the chance to give back to the fans who have brought so much great music over the year. I think the artists themselve's will regret it also because they will see a dip in sales of recordings sold after winning their respective awards or nominations. I hope that the people in charge of making this decision will think about it and change back to having the awards ceremony once again at the NQC.

All I can say is, there will be whiplash from this decision. If you don't believe me, watch what happens after NQC this year. You'd be amazed how many SG fans still don't have any idea the Fan Awards aren't going to be at NQC anymore.
