This Is What Southern Gospel Music Is About

I love the Booth Brothers. And, according to the Singing News Fan Awards (for the past 2 years) I'm not alone in this category!
I have spent a LOT of time with these guys. Michael, Jim, and Ronnie are just good guys. They are the "Real Deal!" They are a blessing to thousands of people-and in my opinion, the best quality about them is a simple one. They are the SAME guys on the bus that they are on stage. Some people have a tendency to be one way on stage and another on the street. Not these guys. I cannot say enough great things about them.
I have a history with Jim Brady. We go back! Jim and I have known each other since the 90's. He was traveling with his wife and father-in-law in a TREMENDOUS trio named The Shulers. They were awesome!
I was in a regional quartet called Lighthouse. We did a lot of concerts together. Jim and I would always talk about "making it" one day. Looking back, its kinda funny.
Jim has always been willing to help people. Not only is he a gifted songwriter and singer, he's an all-around good guy. This story, submitted by a southern gospel fan, says it all:
This actually happened at the Canadian version of NQC in Red Deer Alberta. This happened to be the year that all the US based Southern Gospel Groups were not allowed to handle Canadian currency for product being purchased at their own booth. My wife Pat and here sister Sue and myself (Norm) had volunteered to help with the Booth Brothers booth. What happened was an amazing story.A man had came to Sue and had asked what CD that he should buy. He was a Christian, but had fallen away from the Lord for a number of years. He was now coming back to the Lord and was inspired by the Booth Brother's music. Sue didn't really know what to say, so she asked Jim Brady to talk to this gentleman. So the man asked him what CD should he buy. Jim came and took $20 out of the cash box and went to the Pfiefer's table. He then picked up and paid for the CD and gave it to this man. He said that this was the CD that he should get, so he could continue his walk with the Lord. He then proceeded to talk and pray with this gentleman for about an hour. I was just blown away. This is what Southern Gospel is all about. Spreading the word of Jesus to every one and in every nation. I would like to thank all the group's that participate in conventions, sings, and personal performances. You all do and say what the Lord is telling you to do. We thank you and pray for you on a daily basis.
When I read this story I was reminded of Michael Booth's acceptance speech last year at NQC. He asked the crowd to pray for them, so that the awards and such would not "poision" their spirits. What a powerful request. I believe it is an attitude like that one, that has let God use these guys to go places and minister to people who may have never ever heard this great music or maybe would have never heard about Jesus.
Humility. Humbleness. A giving spirit. No "agenda". It's more than just good songs and funny jokes, it's the heart that matters. That is the true measure of success.
Until next month,
See Ya At The Table
